First of all, Blackfish was a very enlightening, disturbing documentary and I wont be able to go back to Sea World for the rest of my life. Pre-Blackfish, I purchased a season pass and on my most recent visit I was able to pet one of the dolphins noses. I felt kind of ashamed when I realized I was doing exactly what the trainers repeatedly said NOT to do which was, dont touch near the face. One of the dolphins was very enamored with a little girl next to me and they played for a while together. She touched the dolphin all over its face too. I admit, I felt a little worried for her even though the dolphin was very gentle and friendly. It was probably a very lovely, memorable day for that little girl. By saying that, Im not defending Sea World at all but I AM completely sickened at the thought of those poor animals living the way they do. I know its not the worst fate ever for most of them but if youre going to put socially and emotionally intelligent creatures in captivity for profit, what is SO hard about spending a little extra on better living environments? At any rate...ranting does no good but things like this shouldnt exist at all. Power, Greed and Entertainment is what its all about, I guess. Count me out.
