First of all, I question the legitimacy of the statistic. In all - TopicsExpress

First of all, I question the legitimacy of the statistic. In all seriousness, how do they know how many homeless exist? By records at shelters? By counting people on streets, in alleys, on street corners? There is bound to be uncounted homeless. Also, there is bound to be counted freeloaders. The pretend homeless asking for tax free handouts on streets and intersections. Also, when were the statistics compiled? Is this possibly the homeless who lost their homes during the recent economic collapse caused by the housing bubble. Some of those people chose to ride it out, get their unemployment and every extension until it runs out. Some suffered forclosures on homes they couldnt afford in the first place. Im not opposed to people having a roof over their head. The real problem is of epidemic proportions and can be seen in the results of so called entitlement programs. By providing for others, you end up destroying self reliance and independence. Consider places like Detroit. Who was it that said, Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime. If the intention is to bless some homeless person with a house, give them an oppurtunity to earn it, and help assist in employment opportunities. Build their self respect and independence. And those that are taking advantage? Remove the opportunity.
