First of all, I would like to Congratulate Rachel Frederickson - TopicsExpress

First of all, I would like to Congratulate Rachel Frederickson and all of the Biggest Loser contestants. I absolutely love watching each of them transform their lives. Not only do they lose weight, but they also have a total shift both physically and mentally. They come out at the end of the journey full of confidence, life, and excitement about what lies ahead. Most of them go on to inspire so many others to become healthy and make lifestyle changes, in other words, they “Pay it forward.” I did not get a chance to watch the finalie until today. I think this season, I definitely had a soft spot for Rachel, I mean she was a swimmer growing up! I have been frustrated all afternoon with the negative reaction and comments she has received. We have such a altered perception! Yes, there is a drastic difference in her beginning weight, 260, and her final weight of 105. And when you see the “old” and “new” Rachel standing next to each other, you can SEE the difference. However, our preception started with the “old” Rachel…we watched her go through the transformation and as we see her today, she is at the complete opposite end of the weight spectrum. But we still see her as the “old” Rachel. If you walked up and met the “new” Rachel on the street for the first time today, you would think she looked like a very fit and healthy person. People are saying she looks too boney…well, let me tell you, that is because she has typcial swimmer shoulders, so they stand out a little bit, now that she is lean, your eyes are drawn to that. Her shoulders were previously hidden under layers of fat, and now that you can see them, people think it is bad?! I have had so many people come up to me in my life and say, oh you must be a swimmer, simply because of my wide shoulders. Now, you can see that with Rachel too! In a country that is coming more and more overweight and obese by the hour…our image of what is normal has shifted too. What used to be overweight is now normal…so what does that make previously normal people…skinny…and that leaves previoulsy skinny people, what anorexic?! And let’s not throw that term around so lightly. It is a serious medical condition that is developed over time…not over a few weeks. With the Winter Olympics coming starting this week…think of all the dedicated athletes that have gone to extremes in hopes of winning a gold medal…and then think of Rachel, being a competitor at heart and going after her goal of becoming the biggest loser. She did it, she gained her life back and I wish you the best Rachel!!!
