First of all this is a true personal story. I have a friend who is a true African-American. He came to this country legally with his parents and graduated from High School here in Florida. He loved the water and all water sports including fishing. His dream was to own his own boat and get a charter license which would allow him to take people fishing and make a living doing it. After working and saving his money from various jobs he had enough money to buy a boat. He started with an inexpensive boat and eventually he was in a position to purchase a state of the art boat which he did. His charter business is located on the Port Charlotte area on the west coast of Florida and is thriving. As a matter of fact he sometimes has so many charters lined up that he directs some clients to other Charter Captains for which he collects a small finders fee. He is also a good friend of my stepson who introduced me to him. My son Clifford has been a commercial fisherman his entire life. A couple of years ago on my birthday they treated me to a free charter and we caught a bunch of fish. We docked at a restaurant for lunch and drinks and then continued to fish. Most of the fish we caught were beautiful Snook. So what is the point I am making? My African American friend is white. He is the only real African American I know because he actually was born in Africa. My other friends of color are Black Americans or just Americans which is what I prefer.
