First step experiences across I am from Bangladesh. I am here in - TopicsExpress

First step experiences across I am from Bangladesh. I am here in my school dormitory, in Shandong Vocational University of Science and technology. Settling in does not come all at once it is actually quite a gradual process. You can only absorb so much in the week of orientation. When you first arrive, there will be so much on your mind. You will be thinking of your room, your roommate, your classes, the language, the food, and maybe even be home-sicking already. I was thinking of my first day in China, My adventure began at Bangladesh Airport when I boarded the long-haul flight that would take me across the world to Qingdao. Arriving at the airport gave me my first real encounter of China, well strictly speaking my first encounter with Chinese people. A crowd of Chinese people greeted me in the arrival hall. They sat quietly, minding their own business with the odd exchange of words here and there but they can’t also stop looking every now and then. The first point I would like to draw your attention to is that I come from a completely different world! My emphasis is on the word different – not better or worse, just different. I live in a small country called Bangladesh, and the first important contrast is with the sheer size of China. We arrived in Qingdao in the morning and the first impression was one of shock. To see all these frightening buildings, to think about all these people who live in them. I felt uncomfortable, like a tiny grain of sand on the beach. When we met our host, Zhang Lu she was very pleasant and welcoming. She led us in the restaurant to eat something and that was my first experience of the Chinese kitchen. But this was something completely different! I like the way Chinese people prepare the food, they do not destroy all the ingredients, this only makes the food more delicious. I started to use chopsticks for the first time in my life. In the beginning we were a little bit clumsy, but after a few tries we improved our skills. The campus of Shandong Vocational University of Science and technology is nice and modern. Buildings are big and I loved the impact of the plants and greenery between them. I was little worried now about the weather because winter is near and I am not really comfortable with it but in the other hand it also gives a long spring break.
