First up A big thankyou to Ngateja Rangitaawa (Jarrod and Tess) for accommadating, feeding and transporting me to where I needed to be, I really appreciate it guys and cant thank you enough How it went down Saturday.... Made it to the event with 8minutes to spare Ran to registration, bumped into my old class mate Leishia Pettigrew For a split second then ran to where i thought the startline would be only to realise id run to the back of the 6km runners, 3. 2. 1. Bang and theyre off, and im 50 meters away from the startline Passed a few people warmed up on the way, Got stuck behind people along narrow bush tracks There were some messed up rugged bits in the bush, vines of supple jack and blackberry throughout many people were getting tangled up like flies in a spider web and got stuck behind a few people on the narrow bush tracks. The water crossings were mental, full of holes and loose jagged rocks, came across quite a few people with smashed ankles along the way in the bush trail. Out of the bush.... a big hill called egmont... hard clay and steep as hell.... no exageration this was steep, passed many a broken person on this hill, it killed everyone.... no-one i saw ran up that hill, many of the people i passed were either crawling or nearly dead by half way, and at about 100mtrs from the top it was so steep there were ropes etc to pull yourself up, on the 2nd lap, this section was even worse, because i had run into the back of the slower less fit 6km runners there were even more people who had given up and just stopped in their tracks, as i went past them id try to encourage them, and some would keep trucking but others had abandonded all hope. This was a goood run, hazardous as all fuark, there were more injured and broken people on this run than any of the others, in napier alot of people gave up because they were exhausted because it was hard, on this run the majority people who gave up were broken in more ways than one Sunday was pretty much the same, but got there with 15 minutes to spare and had time to get up nearer the front of the starting pack, and got ahead early in front of the congestion, killed my innov8s on saturday, so had to use my 5fingers, the track was slipperyer from the previous day and found the grip on a 5fingers are terrible, even though i had no grip and a less than 4hrs sleep the night before, it was an ugly run slipping on everything, expending way more energy than necesary to get up muddy banks etc and felt twice as hard, also another weird thing happened, as i went down for a crawl through, my top right ab muscle went into full muscular cramp for about a km, it hurt so bad, so i scooped up a hand full of cold mud and used it as an ice pack until the pain subsided. Through the narrow bush trails the congestion was really bad on the second lap was stuck behind a lot of 6km runners and had to run just off the trail through blackberry and bush to get past them, finished 3minutes slower on the second day but with a better div/overall placing even though I expended way more energy but I put this down to poor sleep and no grip on my shoes with the track being muddier on the 2nd day being the main cause Official results Saturday wellington event 1 12k - Two Laps Placings are determined by GUN time JON NINJA TEWHAU Paeroa 1:25:55 Mat Time: 1:25:43.71 Bib No: 85 Official Placing Event: 12k - Two Laps 38th of 97 overall finishers Gender: Male 30th of 62 finishers Division: Male 39 and Under 25th of 48 division finishers 23 non finishers Sunday wellington event day 2 12k - Two Laps Placings are determined by GUN time JON NINJA TEWHAU Paeroa 1:28:29 Mat Time: 1:28:28.02 17th overall 10th in division Bib No: 86 Official Placing Event: 12k - Two Laps 17th of 48 finishers Gender: Male 13th of 29 finishers Division: Male 39 and Under 10th of 22 finishers Damage report, Other than the smashed shoulder and injuries i already had, i only copped a few bruises & some deep scratches in my forearms and shins, for once I came out of it injury free. 3 races left
