Fish & Rheumatoid Arthritis Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease in which your immune system attacks your joints, causing chronic pain and inflammation. According to new research, eating fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel and herring, may help reduce the risk of developing RA. Women who ate at least one serving of fatty fish per week were 29% less likely to develop the disease than those who ate fish less often. The study didnt prove a cause-and-effect relationship but only an association. Fatty fish contains omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce inflammation.
