Fisher is still off ECMO tonight. His condition is currently stable but very serious. The biggest battle facing Fisher at this moment is to fight off this infection. We found out that the strain is very antibiotic resistant. Changes have been made to his antibiotics to include further coverage. This will most likely be a several months long battle and poses several difficulties to his treatment. Obviously, its scary for Fisher to have to fight off this infection especially given the fact that he is immunosuppressed to keep his heart from going into rejection. This will present problems with their ability to close his chest, because you dont want to just trap the infection. They are still formulating a plan with regard to how to manage this infection and it will be an evolving process due to the nature of the infection. The surgeon seemed to think that they might close the bone but leave the rest of his chest open and place another wound vac. They will be doing another sternal wash out in the morning and I am sure we will learn more based upon what they find. Fisher has had several episodes of his blood pressure being too low or getting too high. Of course, we pray that he can remain stable. He is currently heavily sedated and at times paralyzed. We would like for him to be able to move out of this state, but right now he has become so unstable when we try that we have been unable to pursue him waking up more. Fisher has had a lot of improvement in his lung since he came off ECMO, so that is a huge praise. He is still making some urine, which means his kidneys are still functioning, even though he is on a form of dialysis right now. We need for his kidneys to make a full recovery. Thank you to all who carry Fisher and our family during these hard days! Fisher is my hero and I know where his strength comes from! Please continue fighting right alongside Fisher and our family for his little life that we hold so dear!
