Fishing report from All Seasons Sports, Rte 13 Pulaski, NY (I love this sport shop)!! Salmon River & Oswego River Fishing Report: The water level is still 350cfs. Fishing over the weekend on the Salmon River remained steady for some, others reporting slow action for this time of year for Salmon. Steelhead are now spread out from the top to bottom river, with some very nice mid teen catches over the weekend. The Salmon are more concentrated in the upper river (Pineville to Altmar). Fishing in Oswego over the weekend was very good, there are lots of fish below the dam. Egg immitations and plastic eggs are taking Salmon. Steelhead are being caught on egg sacs and beads. The report from Salmon River Sports Shop (Rte 11) is A little slower again today with the sun out and no rain but we are expecting some rain by tomorrow which should help speed things up. Best bet for fishing tomorrow is the lower part of the river or the estuary. Starting to see better numbers of steelies so don’t be afraid to throw some pink and blue on your line to target those. - Now lets talk the Western Part of NY State: Lower Niagara River Lower river charter boats saw good king salmon action in the Devils Hole drift this past week, with banner catches reported on Wednesday. By Thursday, turbid waters from Lake Erie reached the lower river and fishing was tougher as a result. However, charters still returned with an average of 3 kings. On both days, there were decent numbers of fresh salmon mixed in. The lower river run usually starts to taper off in mid-October, however this new pod of fresh salmon is encouraging. Drifting with a three-way rig and cured salmon skein (nickel to quarter size) has worked very well, but a three-way with Kwikfish is also effective at times. Keep in mind that conditions are hazardous in the Devils Hole drift, and only the most experienced boaters should attempt to fish there. Winds have died down, so water clarity will improve through the weekend. Some shore anglers at Devils Hole and Whirlpool State Parks have also done well lately. Shore anglers saw a good amount of king salmon hook-ups on Thursday, during murky conditions. Target salmon by casting large spoons, Vibrax spinners, rattle-traps and jigs with twister tails, or by drifting egg sacs or cured salmon skein under a float. Anglers fishing from shore at the state parks generally do better near dawn and dusk. Shore anglers are catching some king salmon from the NYPA fishing platform, with a few brown trout, steelhead and smallmouth bass mixed in (see user info for NYPA platform below). Spoons, spinners and jigs with mister twisters have been good offerings for platform anglers. Lake Ontario The lower water trend continues on the area tributaries, however king salmon (chinook salmon) are moving up the larger streams anyway. The salmon action is heating up on Eighteenmile Creek below Burt Dam, where fresh kings have been pushing up each of the past 4 days. Eighteenmile still has lower flow, but fortunately the water has a little color. Anglers are catching decent numbers of salmon, with some large brown trout and steelhead mixed in. The scenario is similar at Oak Orchard Creek, where salmon numbers and catches are building daily. The Genesee River has had good flow and catches for a couple weeks. Anglers are still catching good numbers of king salmon in the section below the falls. The smaller tributaries had a slight bump in flow at mid-week, moving in some salmon. Flows are again back to low and clear. Sandy and Johnson Creeks do have some scattered salmon. Egg sacs, salmon skein, egg pattern flies and streamers work well for migrating salmon talk the Niagara NY area:
