Five New Members Elected To UN Security Council--- The UN General Assembly on 18 October elected Chad, Chile, Lithuania, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia to a two-year term in the UN Security Council.Saudi Arabia rejected its seat on the United Nations Security Council because of the failure of the international community to end the war in Syria and act on other Middle East issues.The New Council members will replace Azerbaijan, Guatemala, Morocco, Pakistan and Togo.The new members will assume their posts on 1 January 2014 and serve through the end of 2015.The 15 Members of the Security Council has five veto-wielding permanent members — the United States, Britain, France, Russia, and China — and 10 nonpermanent members. ***((nanoi))***
