Five Reasons Why Christians Love: (1 John 4:7-20) 1) Because God is the essence of Love. 1 John 4:7-8. Love is inherent in all He is and does. Even His judgement and wrath are perfectly harmonized with His Love. 2) To follow the supreme example if Gods sacrificial Love in sending His Son for us. 1 John 4:9. The judgement of sin on the cross was the supreme example of Gods Love, for He poured out His wrath on His beloved Son in place of all sinners. Gods sending of His Son gives Christians not only salvation privileges, but and obligation to follow this pattern of sacrificial love. Christian love is self-sacrificing like Gods love. 3) Because Love is the heart of Christian witness. Love originated in God, was manifested in His Son Jesus and is demonstrated today in His people (the church). 4) Because Love is the Christians assurance. 1 John 4:16. And so we know and rely on the Love God has for us. 5) Because Love is the Christians confidence in judgement. Love is made complete among us. This is not suggesting sinless perfection, but rather mature love marked by confidence in the face of judgement. Confidence is a sign that love is mature.
