Five years ago, my day would have started at 4 with a quick shave and shower, an even quicker gulp of coffee -- followed by a 50 mph rush down a 20 mph street to catch the 4:47 into Grand Central... That was five years ago... This morning I woke up at 4:30, made coffee -- would have loved for it to be french press, but good, hot coffee is... well, good, hot coffee! -- and took a walk. A lot has changed -- and theres a lot for which to be thankful (notice, no dangling prepositions for me!), including being shown that sometimes being corny and nerdy is OK, because thats just me. So I sat overlooking the water, watching the first colors of the day merge with an amazing sky filled with stars and a crescent moon, gently kissed by a crisp October breeze that skimmed off the Sound. And I got to stop in at my favorite coffee shop, where I took the time to sit at the counter -- a first! -- and drink from one of those old-fashioned thick mugs that only little coffee shops seem to have. Sitting beside me were the two Archies. Now, who these days names their son Archibald? -- and got to sit sharing coffee with not one, but TWO of them, nice old fellas who share a name, both retired, one a carpenter the other an electrician, who still get up at 5 because after all these years, my body does what IT wants. Then I drove to the train station, where I shared the morning sun with a bunch of good folks who stopped talking about Ebola and Obama because the sunrise demanded a collective, Wow. Yep, a lots changed in five years. Thank you -- with all my heart, thank you. I hope you can take a deep breath, enjoy your coffee, savor YOUR day... and remember to say, thanks. Have a great weekend! :D
