Five years ago right now (UK time), Id be shitting myself. Five years ago my currently time (NZ, morning of 4 April), Id be about to embark on a journey thatll forever change my life. Id be standing on a junction in Clapham Common, hoisting MOROCCO scrawled on cardboard, my thumb raised in a manner I hadnt imagined Id use over and over again over the next five years. Today marks my five-year anniversary since the day I took the plunge and hitchhiked for the first time. I have so many people to thank, some 10,000+ kilometres and over 100 rides later, spanning three continents and ten countries. To Anna Salmon, Tori PY, Michael Schroeder and Ayngelina Brogan, whove shared thumb-raising duties with me, and the many charitable individuals who donated their space, privacy, petrol and companionship (Olly Roy, Patrick Keogh, Line Osowiecki, Lorna MacMillan amongst many others) as well as those who sheltered me during my cyclops-less odysseys (Suzanne Wilkins, Dustin Main, Alexandria Werenka, Lindsay Hogg, Matt Chandler, Corbin Fraser, Kyla West) and new friendships forged owing to hitchhiking (#FACT, Ian Ord): My utmostly heartfelt gratitude to you all, for giving substance to the best thing thats happened in my life. So far ;) And especially to Miles Gl: for something as small and insignificant as a Links Morocco & Croatia Hitch postcard may spur ones resolve to fulfilling a destiny. Onwards, hitchhikers, onwards!
