Five years ago today I was in Kansas at Shawnee Mission Hospital with the most beautiful lady I know. Together we bore witness to the birth of Gabriel Izayah Stephon. Together we cried over his beauty and together we shared a final hug and kiss. Every year on his birthday I thank this amazing woman for not only making a difference in my life but hers. Together we share the birthday of an extraordinary young man. Adoption is a choice. Its a hard choice. Its a forever choice. But, as those of us who share openly know all too well, it is a choice that brings joy and a bond between two mothers that can never be broken. Even if silently shared, it is a day that changes lives forever. I am incredibly blessed to be able share Gabes life with his birth mother and his half-brother and on this miraculous day, I smile and say happy birthday to all of us.
