Flat fish fever… The mud minnow didn’t know that its four inch wiggly little life form was fixing to end in just a few moments but I believe the second I pierced him through both tiny lips with my shiny new wide gapped hook glistening form the bright sunny sky over head, he knew it was over but it is his right and his nature to want to struggle and be free. The six pound twenty four inch Flounders eyes keying in on the struggling little mudfish, her whole flat core submerged deep into her sandy bed along the north shoreline of Christmas bay, she thought different. It took this Sow flounder only a few moments to hone in on the targeted prey near her struggling so, and like a tornado in reverse with swirling sand erupting around her sandy bed the huge Flounder in the blink of an eye zoomed in and attacked the helpless little mudfish and the wide gap hook razor sharp impelled the five pound Sow Flounder as she made a run for the deeper bay pulling out my drag and coming to the surface she leapt out of the salty domain she came from and attempted to fling out my hook but the razor points and the strong line held and this fine flat fish was mine and I eased her over to me after she tired herself out and that is when I saw the swelled stomach from her prior meal and noticed the small baby flounder following her with amazement. I watched these baby little flat fish’s gather around their mother I presumed, and that was when I decided to let her go and as I did the huge Sow seemed to call on her young and in unison the Mother waited till they grouped up got in front of her and she led them out into the emerald green bay and the southeast wind picked up and I shook my head and slipped another mud minnow on and cast out into the wind and with a plop and after a few minutes I felt the line go slack and then that ever feeling of another I suspect a Flounder had swallowed my mudfish and the cycle continues and I again thank the good Lord for another day and the fish he supplies and all that he does for you and me…
