Flight manifests show these specific partisan events are the only occasions which Premier Alison Redford travels with any other cabinet minister or MLA on a government plane. Almost every other flight Redford takes is confined to just herself, her staff, occasionally her daughter, and in a few instances her daughter’s friend. In addition, flight manifests show several dates where a government plane has left Edmonton empty, been boarded in Calgary by Redford alone, returned to Edmonton with only Redford on board, and then later that same day flown back to Calgary with only Redford on board, and finally returned to Edmonton, again empty. The total one day cost to taxpayers for those flights would be between $2000 and $2400, depending on the government airplane used, according to Alberta Finance figures. The flight manifests show such flights are a regular habit for the premier. By comparison, the same Calgary to Edmonton return flight on Westjet would cost Alberta tax payers $249.
