Flood victims confronted with worst situations, apathy of the administration: Tarigami: Srinagar, November 1: Stating that with the onset of the winter, the miseries of the flood victims especially those rendered shelter less have increased manifold and are confronted with apathy of the administration , the State Secretary CPI (M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has said that an effective and comprehensive mechanism for relief and rehabilitation is awaiting and the official machinery is in deep slumber, besides the central government has also demonstrated it’s insensitivity towards the flood victims of the state by not disclosing it’s policy for the rehabilitation of the affectees. The CPI(M) leader said though initially the government of India has shown its concern to declare the calamity as “national disaster” but afterwards kept mum over the issue leaving the flood victims of the state at their own mercy. Reiterating his demand for declaration of heavy floods as a “national disaster” and release of massive funding for relief and rehabilitation to the flood victims, he said that disbursement of meager relief amount among the houseless people and in genuine attitude, there is immediate need of providing relief amount as per the losses caused to the property and the standing crops. Expressing his dismay over the insensitivity of the administration in providing tents, basic amenities to the houseless flood victims who are facing adversities of cold temperature, Tarigami said that the habitations washed away have not been provided land for construction of dwelling units which is very unfortunate, adding that the district administration be directed to identify and arrange suitable land for such affectees without any further delay. Like-wise building permissions be granted on time to the affectees for reconstruction of their residential houses within the limits of local bodies. The rural landless people have been kept away from the provision of free ration which is yet another blow to these economically weaker sections. The CPI(M) leader demanded free ration for these sections and urged for streamlining the free ration distribution system to flood affected areas. The livestock rearers whose livestock have been vanished by the floods be provided adequate compensation and also efforts be made for providing of fodder to the livestock in flood affected areas, he stressed.
