Flush out rogue police in case, minister says Source: The National, Monday July 7th, 2014 HOUSING Minister Paul Isikiel has called on Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki to immediately identify and remove rogue policemen involved in the investigations into the Paul Paraka Lawyers’ case. Isikiel urged Vaki to flush out rogue police who may have colluded with other people to discredit and incriminate Prime Minister Peter O’Neill. “The Prime Minister has not created any major constitutional crisis to feel responsible for and vacate office,” he said. ‘I reckon the entire investigation process has been compromised and taken out of context by certain elements in the force who may be colluding with outside forces to discredit and incriminate the prime minister. “We have to be very careful here and not set a dangerous precedent by allowing a small administrative matter to become the focal issue to undermine the office of the chief executive officer.” Isikiel said the police commissioner must review the entire scope of investigations and “cast the net further and bring in for questioning all those who played a role in engaging the law firm in the first place, and all those involved in the chain of processors, going back 10 years or so, that finally handed up with the alleged signed letter that became the centre of the current political saga”. “It’s a simple administrative matter that has been taken out of context by aggrieved faceless politicians who have more to gain out of all these insanities,” Isikiel said. “They are the ones at the back of the NGOs and civil societies, and sections of society close to those aggrieved politicians or aspiring prime ministers, including sacked bureaucrats that are behind a lot of these insanities. “This country is at the crossroad of development and on the verge of being respected as a major global player with the scheduled 2018 APEC Leaders’ Summit, whereby a cast of world super powers will be upon our shores. “We must abstain from all these unnecessary political shame and blame game and focus on what we, as a country, can collectively gain from the experience that most of the third world countries can only dream of.” Isikiel urged leaders of the ruling coalition to stand firm and support O’Neill “in the face of the forces exerted by faceless politicians”.
