Focus on Indian Cinema at Indian Embassy, Moscow, Feb 22, 2012 Автор: Embassy of India, Moscow · Обновлено около месяца назад “Film critic Yuri Korchagov gifts book collection to Indian Embassy” On the evening of February 22, 2012, the Embassy of India, Moscow, hosted a function to honour the distinguished film expert and critic, Mr. Yuri Fillipovich Korchagov, who gifted to its Library his collection of 300 Russian language books and magazines devoted to Indian cinema. Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador of India HE Mr. Ajai Malhotra recalled his three-decade long friendship with Mr. Korchagov. He mentioned that Mr. Korchagov had a long-standing association with the Indian film industry and truly understood the pulse of Bollywood. Mr. Korchagov has written two authoritative books and numerous articles on Indian cinema, translated and dubbed about 250 Hindi films into Russian, besides attending many Film Festivals in India. Over the decades, Mr. Korchagov has assembled a rare collection of books in Russian on Indian cinema and culture, which he was now presenting to the Indian Embassy in Moscow. Felicitating Mr. Korchagov with a shawl and a bouquet of roses, Ambassador Malhotra stated: “I am grateful to Mr. Korchagov for his kind gesture and valuable gift, which would be housed in the reference section of the Embassy of India Library. Indian films are popular across Russia and I am delighted that a wider Russian audience will now be able to access and appreciate this unique and important collection. I would also like to confirm that with this event the screening of Indian films would become a regular feature of the monthly cultural calendar of the Indian Embassy in Moscow.” Ambassador Malhotra announced that a Festival of Contemporary Indian Cinema would open in Moscow on April 13, 2012, as part of the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of India-Russia diplomatic relations. A dozen Indian films would be screened during the Festival, which would cover Moscow, St. Petersburg and several other Russian cities. Mr. Korchagov thanked the Ambassador for his renewed, energetic promotion of Indian films and expressed happiness over the forthcoming convening of a Festival of Contemporary Indian Cinema in several Russian cities. He assured of his full support in making the Festival a success. The evening concluded with a screening of the popular 2003 Bollywood film “Kal Ho Na Ho” starring Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan and Jaya Bachchan, which was followed by a Reception.
