Folks, I am glad you bring this up. I am a big President Barack - TopicsExpress

Folks, I am glad you bring this up. I am a big President Barack Obama supporter and worked many hours in his Organizing For America campaign in Las Vegas in 2012. But I think as his friends we need to push him for better and quicker action on the Afordable Care Act -- Obamacare. As things stand Vermont will not be able to implement the single payer system until 2017 -- when ACA permits to implement improvements to the act. However. if President Obamas Administration signs a waiver it could be implemented right away. Lets push his administration to do this. Dont get sidetracked by the BS Republicans are throwing around because of the computer problems. Every major reform program -- Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. -- had similar initial problems. But once implemented, Republicans could not sabotage them -- despite repeated tries -- always with the BS that they are trying to save the program. Each became very loved programs and Republicans could not get rid of them. THIS IS THEIR REAL FEAR about OBAMACARE. And their biggest lie is that it is a total government takeover of healthcare, socialized medicine and contains death panels that will kill your granny. Actually it is THEIR PROGRAM that was conceived in 1993 as the alternative to President Bill Clintons Hillarycare. It became the rule of all evil only the minute Obama adopted it. The program is working great and has a 75 percent approval rating in Massachusetts, where Mitt Romney, had it enacted cduring his term as governor with the help of Democratic healthcare guru Ted Kennedy. Is why Republicans hate it so much? Or is it because it is the signature accomplishment of the first African American president? The real problem with Obamacare is not that it reforms our healthcare system -- the most expensive in the globe and ranking 37th in quality, behind illegal drug exporter Columbia. The real problem is that it DOESNT GO FAR ENOUGH. That is why we must push Obama to grant Vermont a single payer system. Isnt it funny, that Republicans -- who always champion States Rights are so opposed to giving progressive state like Vermont a chance to try it. Of course, they know once one state tries it,that program will be so popular that other states will adopt it. Sound familaiar? I am bothered that even my more liberal friends -- such as some of thoe in the Wellstone Democratic Club here in Sacramento are taking the attitude Obama will not do this and lets wait until 2017. Obama got pushed into implementing repeal of Dont Ask Dont Tell by getting Congress to do it. He also made quite a difference in pushing for and getting Americans to approve allowing gay marriages. So did other presidents. Franklin Delano Roosevelt -- who ran in 1932 on promise to balance the budget -- adjusted to dealing much needed reform during the Great Depression -- and was pushed by liberals/progressives to enactment of Social Security, child labor laws and the WPA, to name just a few. JFK got pushed into coming up with a strong Civil Rights measure. Teddy Roosevelt, the most progressive Republican president (really only the real one) got pushed into a lot of his reforms too.
