Folks check this out. Sometimes I regret being Ghanaian. Honestly. I have lost hope in Ghana. India became the fourth nation (if Europe is counted as one) to put a satellite into orbit around Mars. It is indeed the first country from Asia to achieve that after Asian countries like China and Japan had failed in previous attempts.Only the US, Russia and Europe have previously sent missions to Mars successfully and now have been joined by India. Why am I telling you this? Indias space mission to Mars has been lauded around the world for its unprecedented cost effectiveness and efficiency. In all, the country spent 74 million US Dollars to be on Mars!! We are talking about this in the year 2014!!! Despite the low cost involved, India also scored points for being the only country to have a successful space mission on the first attempt. All these achivements cost the emerging economic gaint 74 million US Dollars. Sadly around the same time this is happening in India, another country which comparatively has a far lesser GDP compared to India is spending a whooping amount of 115 Million US Dollars to embark on a registration exercise. Yes!! To issue ID cards!!! And your guess is right, the money is a loan which will ultimately be paid back one way or the other. Ghana spent around 7 Million US Dollars for a national registration exercise just a few years ago. But today, all that money seems to have been wasted as a new loan of 115 Million US Dollars has been contrated from China for a similar exercise. What are our priorities? Who controls wastage in the system? Who gets punished for these wastages?
