Folks, over the weekend there was an unfortunate incident of a fellow racer, Les, being struck in the face by an 1/8th Ebuggy. The force of the impact briefly knocked Les out and at the same time ripped open his upper cheek and lip. This was one of the most horrifying things I have seen in some time. He was rushed to the hospital and received 20 stitches to sew the inside and outside of his cheek and lip back together. I bring this to everyones attention for one reason only, safety. Safety is of the utmost importance while at the track, not just for yourself, but those around you as well, regardless if you know the person or not. While this was a very unfortunate situation, there are several things we can learn from. A few things I thought of are, below, but please share your thoughts. - Before setting your vehicle down on the track, scan the area. Look at others both on and off the track, be aware of who and what is using the track. - Use your peripheral vision while driving and marshalling. - While marshalling, use vision and sound to be aware of cars - While marshalling, do not enter the lane until you are comfortable doing so and make sure no other cars are coming - 1/8th Scale, if there are lots of people on the track, maybe don’t use full throttle or try to jump the larger jumps - No flipped over car is worth being hit or hitting someone Some of these cars, namely the 1/8th scale have tremendous power, speed, and weight behind them. These vehicles can and will inflict significant harm. As a driver, as an enthusiast, as a person on the track marshalling, we all need to be very cognizant of our surroundings and each other. To those guys that stepped up to help tend to Les and his stuff thank you!!!
