Folks, we have a plan so cunning you could stick a tail on it and call it a weasel... We call it THE COLLECTED WEB... …but it needs your assistance. The Web has been going a long time. Our first issue was released Feb ‘82 and has been coming out in one form or another ever since. Thats a lot of information and we thought that it might be good if it was made available again. It might be online or it might be for a publication. Its going to depend what we can get hold of! Sounds good, right? Problem is, no one ever thought that anyone might wish to see these things again. For years the Webs were put together the hard way, by typing stuff out and pasting it into a document, then photocopying it. Even once we had computers, no one thought about holding onto the files. We know, because weve asked the guys that used to put them together and they dont have them. So, we need YOU to help us. We want to find people that have old copies of the Web that are prepared to scan them for us, and even better, to OCR them (Optical Character Recognition, where graphic characters are turned back into workable text). If you have back issues and the capacity to scan/OCR them, we want you to drop us a line and tell us which issue, and whether its scanning (at 300 dpi), OCRing or both. Email fraser@theweb-uk. Please do not run off and start scanning without speaking to us first - we dont want to duplicate effort!
