Following army’s successes, Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists in Qalamoun stuck between a rock and a hard place 10/10/2014 Damascus, SANA-Once again and in a precise military operation, the Syrian army manages to put paid to the illusions of terrorist organizations that seek to establish a foothold in Qalamoun mountainous region in Damascus countryside. With Winter about to set in, it won’t be long before terrorists in the region, mostly affiliated to Jabhat al-Nusra, will be holed up in their prison-like dens, knowing the ruthless weather conditions during Winter in the region that straddles the Syrian-Lebanese border. A recent attempt by terrorists to sneak to the area extending from al-Jebbeh and Essal al-Ward towns in Qalamoun seems to be the last-ditch effort they make after the striking blow they suffered by the Syrian army. As many as 57 terrorists were killed and several others wounded in the army’s operation. From the standpoint of a hill overlooking al-Jebbeh and Essal al-Ward towns, the field commander points his finger to indicate routes extending from Essal and Ward mountains until al-Jebbeh that the army discovered, inflicting significant losses on the terrorists using them. At the site where the infiltration attempt was foiled, the corpses of terrorists and charred vehicles could be seen as the army continued to pummel their dens in the region. The terrorist attack, the commander said, was meant to “cut off communication channels between #Qalamoun villages to ensure the terrorists’ control of one of them.” The commander vowed that the army and armed forces will remain on high alert to “observe the slightest movement of terrorists and prevent them from attaining whatever goals they might have in the region.” Buckled down on harvesting a bountiful apples’ season, Qalamoun locals exude a sense of profound relief and satisfaction at having done away with the threat of terrorism that have haunted their towns and villages for so long. The Syrian army restored stability to Essal al-Ward town, along with several villages on the Syrian-Lebanese border, on April 5. Terrorist groups, nonetheless, appear to be basking in the illusion of regaining control of the area, which prompts them to embark on futile adventures in the form of ill-fated infiltration attempts via illegal crossing. The Syrian army, however, is always there to deal sobering blows to terrorists every time their delusions tend to run away with them. Manal Ismael
