Following his involvement in the newly registered All Progressives Congress (APC), Imo State Governor Rocha Okorocha yesterday narrowly escaped being expelled from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). Okorocha was, however, suspended by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party for anti-party activities. The National Vice Chairman of APGA (South-West), Alhaji Tayo Sowunmi, who read the communique of the over six hours meeting in Abuja also said the NEC unanimously resolved to dissolved the Imo State chapter of the party and that a 21- man Caretaker Committee will be appointed to oversee the party’s affair in the state until a congress is done. Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Architect Calistus Ilozumba represented Governor Peter Obi at the event marking the first official function he would be participating in APGA after reconciling with the national chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh and national secretary, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi. He also said that barely three weeks after the party invited aspirants to declare interest in the race, 14 persons including former CBN Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo had collected the expression of interest forms and are to pay N10 million for the nomination forms, while female aspirants are to pay N5 million. National chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, also faulted Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State’s congratulatory advertorial which included APGA, saying the governor would be sued for N5 billion damages and for an apology, joining that of Governor Raji Fasola of Lagos who was to pay N20 billion damage for his own advertorial. On Okorocha, he said his fate would be decided after he might have declared to join the APC at a rally, adding that, “he can join the APC as an individual but not with the mandate the Imo people gave APGA, we would take legal action and the party leadership will take other necessary actions on this issue.” Meanwhile, Chief Umeh has denied insinuations that he received N8 billion from the Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi to enter into the peace pact over the crisis in the party, saying it was rather the Court of Appeal July 15 judgment which upheld his appeal and affirmed him as the National Chairman of APGA that served as the catalyst that brokered the peace. Speaking yesterday in Abuja when he visited the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Environment and APGA Governorship aspirant, Hon. Uche Ekwunife to commiserate with her on the ghastly motor accident in which she and Hon. Afam Ogene were involved, Umeh said he took the reconciliation in the interest of the party.
