Following post is Copied from friends comment. The parents should impose the barriers for themselves. According to Hindu religion, the life cycle is devided into: Baalya (Child stage) Koumaara (adolescent stage), yavvana (youth stage),gruhastha (famly stage), Vaanaprastha (renounciation stage) and Sanyasa (givingup stage). Vaanaprastha generally between 50 to 60/65, by which time you will complete your duties towards your family and worldly affairs. You should start renunciation slowly detaching with all worldly affairs including your family and prepare yourself for total giving-up and find out the ways for Moksha. After certain stage, there is no meaning of worrying about anything including your own family as you have finished your duties towards them and it is for them to live their own life. This comes in by practice.
