Following the decision taken by Glasgow Cty Council to fly the Palestinian flag, the following are two letters which were written in ptoest agains thtis decison. I hope that t2 letters which were sent to Glasgow City Council following decision to raise Palestinian flag 07Apr14 Gordon Matheson Who has given you the right to decide to fly the Palestinian flag on Glasgow Town Hall or any other Government owned buildings in the Glasgow area? I understand you and your council members feel the pain for the people of Gaza but that should be shown in your own individual actions not by using Government property. Why have you and your council not taken similar steps of flying flags of other nations who are suffering for longer periods and in more brutal ways, is this because you are afraid of causing offense to the different Muslim parties concerned ? You are using this flag flying for your own benefit of showing the Muslim community that your councillors are with them and this will help the voting for Labour in the next election subject to the SNP not winning. My father fought in World War 11 and was injured on D day , fighting the idea of Nazis coming to the UK and keeping our society free. Are you prepared to accept Sharia Law and the dictatorship of freedom this will bring, look at history and understand that our country has been for centuries a land where we call ourselves British but we are able to follow our own religions. British are peaceful people , therefore you do not have the right to throw our heritage away for your own political influence. I find it hard to understand after hosting a wonderful Commonweath Games and seeing so many nations coming together that now it’s over you can revert to your own agenda of creating a division in society. Our forefathers would turn in their graves after seeing your true colours and yes they would never have fought alongside such a cowardly act as flying a flag of people who only know to kill one another, Wake up to your actions and stop behaving as a traitor. Dear Sirs / Madam It is with regret that I am writing to you to ask you to reconsider your decision to raise the Palestinian Flag at the Glasgow Town Hall. While I am not indifferent to the suffering of civilians (children, women and men) I do not understand why you have chosen specifically to raise the profile of Palestinians over every other nation on our planet? Does your statement mean you are indifferent to the 100,000s of Israelis (Jewish, Christian and Muslim) who are faced with constant rocket attacks (which thankfully have not resulted in large civilian deaths)? Are you prepared to raise the Israeli flag to empathise the feelings of those having to run to bomb shelters, worrying about their families and loved ones? Will you stand in support for those 3 Israeli teenagers kidnapped and killed by Hamas (the very organisation you are supporting)? Do you know that Hamas is a banned political organisation whose political and social agenda includes the annihilation of the State of Israel and the Jewish people. Do you know that Hamas (along with ISIS, Taliban, Muslim Brotherhood and Boko Haram) have imposed strict rules on women, discouraged activities commonly associated with Western or Christian culture, oppressed non-Muslim minorities, imposed sharia law, and deployed religious police to enforce these laws? Are you raising the Palestinian flag to show your solidarity with this ideology? Where is your support for the 10,000s of Iraqi Christians who are currently being wiped off the map (forced from their homes and murdered) by ISIS? Are you aware of this conflict? Are you aware that ISIS have killed 10,000s of people in their quest to impose Sharia law on the peoples of Iraq and Syria? Why havent you flown the Syrian flag in empathy for the 180,000 + citizens of Syria that have been killed by recent fighting (largely caused by fanatical Islam and as close as a political entity to Hamas as is possible)? Why havent you flown the Nigerian flag in sympathy for the countless communities (mostly Christian) in the north of the country that have been ripped apart by the murderous Boko Haram? Are you indifferent to their suffering or is your empathy selective and confined to anything that is anti-Israel? I do not agree or understand with your position. Your job (as paid for by the people of Glasgow) is to represent your community in civil duties. Spend your time improving local education, facilities and jobs. If you all (personally) have a grievance with the situation in Gaza (I mention this as a separate entity to the West Bank as Gaza is controlled by Hamas which has a different political agenda to Fatah which controls the West Bank) then by all means represent yourself at any of the rallies, etc that this country thankfully allows you to participate in. Do not represent ALL of Glasgow with this gesture as not all of Glasgow is in agreement with your position. If you want to fly the Palestinian flag on a government building let me make a suggestion; get a job in Gaza. here were lots more:
