Following todays news that Howard Webb has retired from refereeing, we can now finally announce that he will be one of our guest presenters at NPUA Conference 2014! In 27 years as a referee, Howard has achieved everything there is to achieve in the game, including refereeing the FA Cup final, Champions League final and the pinnacle - the 2010 World Cup final. During an extended session on the Sunday of NPUA Conference 2014, Howard will share some of his experiences with NPUA members and pass on his advice on officiating at the top level. Howard has now taken on the role of Technical Director of the Official Referees Association and has agreed to present at conference subject to the demands of his new role. In addition to Howard, our other special guest will be Janie Frampton. A former international football referee and now a match official consultant, Janie has worked extensively with officials from many sports. She will be talking to us about the psychology of decision making and how pressure and conflict affect decision making. NPUA members will be sharing their experiences from the recent XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. As well as showing photographs and anecdotes from their experience, they will also pass on advice from the top that will be relevant to umpires in the National Programme. The launch of the new Towards Understanding & Consensus video clips, which include footage from national programme events over the last season. The clips feature commentary from World Cup Umpire Manager Henrik Ehlers and pass on advice on how to difficult situations. Richard Glynne-Jones, England Hockey Officiating and Volunteers Manager will present on the relationship between EH and NPUA, and will also share his views on the new National Programme Development Panel. The NPUA Gala Dinner and Annual Awards will once again take place on Saturday evening, giving us the opportunity to share the successes of NPUA and our members over the last year. The NPUA AGM will give you a chance to have your say on how we take NPUA forward over the next year and beyond. There are also opportunities to join the Executive Committee, including as Deputy Chair - if you are interested, please contact Martin Twist or Sean Edwards. The NPUA Conference will also provide the last opportunity to complete the compulsory fitness test before the deadline - if you have not completed a fitness test by 7th September, you will not be eligible to umpire in the national league.
