Food for thought. Last night on the news, I was interviewed about the Paleo way. The interview took about an hour and was shortened to about 20 seconds, which equated to 2 questions and answers which didnt touch on any of the benefits of the lifestyle which I spoke at length about. The interviewer wrapped up their short story by saying that cutting out food groups (grains or dairy) shouldnt be done by anyone without a medical condition. So in saying that, should we wait for a medical condition to arise and then cut things out, or should we be properly informed and empowered to choose wisely to potentially prevent a medical condition occurring? Isnt prevention what we should all be focussing our combined energies on, as a large percentage of all long term chronic diseases are in fact preventable, from LIFESTYLE choices? Interestingly, today in a couple of our national newspapers, the journalist road tests the paleo DIET,and this is why I do not like to use the word diet as this is a LIFESTYLE at its core. It is about making conscious decisions about what to put on our dinner tables for our selves and our families and to understand where our food comes from. One of the factors of this lifestyle which you very rarely hear about in the media or from governing health associations is about who we decide to spend our dollars with. Should we not be supporting the dedicated producers of our food (chemical free, pasture raised, wild caught etc.) so that we can have access to the healthiest food to put on our tables instead of the producers of intensively farmed food that is pumped full of antibiotics, growth hormones, as well as pesticides and chemicals. When we talk about our own health, we also need to talk about the health of the animals that we consume, and should they not also be eating food that they have evolved to eat so they as well do not become sick? For the journalist in this article to say that their biggest issue with this way of eating, is to say it is DULL, tells me they have little regard for understanding what this lifestyle is really about. I hope that the recipes I share with you on this page do not taste dull and I would love to hear from you the exciting recipes that you create for your yourselves and your families. As I said in the interview I am betting my life and the life of my families on this way of living, and It has never tasted SO GOOD (they cut that last part out about it tasting good..haha) Feel free to share among your friends and family and also dont forget to share your recipe ideas that you and your family love!
