Shalom Daniel, UN Envoy Calls for Division of Jerusalem “It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.” (Zechariah 12:2–3) Last week, UN envoy Robert H. Serry emphasized Israel’s capital, Jerusalem, must be divided to achieve peace. “Without resolving Jerusalem, there will be no solution,” he said. “The [UN] secretary general believes that a way has to be found for Jerusalem to emerge as a capital for two states.” (JPost) Serry currently serves as the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Representative to the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority. He was speaking in Jerusalem at a conference organized by the Peace NGO Forum with support from the European Union. The Western (Wailing) Wall Plaza is located in the Old City in East Jerusalem, which the Palestinians are demanding as their capital. Serry said Israeli and Palestinian leaders must work to galvanize a public peace movement. “Let’s face it, almost nobody believes that these talks will have a positive outcome,” he said. “If you yourself believe in a two state solution, then this is indeed a time for renewed action.” (JPost) Meanwhile, the Obama administration may have its own plans for a draft framework agreement on permanent status between Israel and the Palestinians, which it might present in January, Meretz chairman Zahava Gal-On, a senior Knesset Member said on Monday. According to Gal-On, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was informed of this by US Secretary of State John Kerry during their meeting in Rome two weeks ago. Kerry arrived in Israel last night and is set to meet today with Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Robert Serry at the UN Security Council Bible prophecy forewarns that Jerusalem will be at the heart of an international struggle in the last days. (Zechariah 12:2–3) Scripture also warns that attempts to divide Gods land will bring certain judgment: I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to My inheritance, My people Israel, because they scattered My people among the nations and divided up My land. (Joel 3:2) Time is short.
