Food labels: The ENERGY of a product is measured either in Calories (Kcal) or Kilojoules (kJ). Each calorie is equal to 4.2 kilojoules, so to convert the calorie content to kilojoules, simply multiply by 4.2. The average daily kilojoule intake depends on your length, ideal body weight and level of physical activity (a dietitian would be able to work out exactly how much kilojoules you should get in daily). On average a woman who wants to lose weight should consume about 5500 kiljoules daily, and men 7500 kilojoules daily. Be on the lookout for foods that have a high kilojoule content. A product can be low in energy, but if you consume more than one serving it can quickly add up!
