Football - Premier League Paper Round: 125 million reasons for AVB to join PSG Not only will PSG offer Andre Villas-Boas a huge salary to take over as manager, but they’ll reportedly sanction a move for Tottenham’s star player Gareth Bale. The Daily Mirror makes the extraordinary claim on the back page this morning, having already reported that the Ligue 1 champions are not only prepared to activate AVB’s £10m release clause at White Hart Lane, but to pay him the same amount annually in a four-year contract. Add that to today’s report, in which it is claimed that PSG have ‘discussed a world record £85m bid for Bale as part of the negotiations’, and you have a club going full tilt to bring the Portuguese on board. The fact that David Luiz of Chelsea is also on the wish-list is something of a footnote – not bad, given he could cost as much as £30m. The Mirror is a strong source of rumour today, and they also have news of Liverpool, who are planning for life without Luis Suarez. The Reds are bracing themselves for his departure, and would want the top scorer at the Euro Under-21 Championship Alvaro Morata in any deal with Real Madrid for their Uruguayan talisman. Deals with the Bernabeu are on hold until such point as a manager is appointed – the same problem is holding up the possible sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Arsenal – but reports in the back pages suggest that Carlo Ancelotti could be named the new boss as early as today. The Times adds that Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet could be an Anfield player before the week is out, while the Guardian says that the £22m-rated Henrikh Mkhitaryan of Shakhtar Donetsk has already been approached about a deal. The Telegraph, meanwhile, turns its attention to Manchester City, who are struggling to land their top targets. Yes, they’ve already spent £50m this summer, but they look set to miss out on Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, whose preference is, seemingly, anywhere else. Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich (should Dortmund soften their stance on selling him to a rival) remain higher in his thoughts. And as for Spanish playmaker Isco, a reunion with Manuel Pellegrini could be scuppered because the Malaga starlet is drawing interest from Real Madrid. Arsenal are facing two big defensive losses this summer, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona shortlisting Laurent Koscielny for a transfer. Koscielny has publicly questioned ambition levels at the Emirates, and the Mirror quote his agent drumming up interest for him on the continent. Bacary Sagna could depart as well, with PSG and Monaco both watching him. The principality club are also keeping an eye on Nani, who is undecided about his future and could yet stay at Manchester United, add the Daily Mail. Andy Carroll’s move to West Ham United will finally go through, The Sun says – but only if he passes the super-stringent medical the club has set up before they confirm his £16m, £100,000-a-week deal. And in a couple of final titbits, Aston Villa are closing in on Sevilla left-back Antonio Luna after agreeing a £1.5m deal, say the Daily Express, while the Daily Star reckon that Hull City are trying to hijack Newcastle United’s move for Darren Bent.
