For 12 years Ive been watching my son Raney grow up, from this squeaky little thing we brought home to what appears to be a kind and gentle young man. All parents feel this Im sure, it seems every time you turn around another few years has slipped by. Although we cant stop time, there are moments when time holds its breath. Every night when its time for bed we have our routine of pjs, and brushing then Raney announces OK dad, Im ready for bed and he climbs under the covers and we chat for a bit about the day and what the plan might be for tomorrow. Then its goodnight Raneyboy, I love you. ... Love you to dad. We turn out the lights and as Im leaving I hear his voice in the darkness stay up til I fall asleep? It stops me every night, my heart seems to skip & flutter a bit. Our little ritual, timeless, peaceful, and one of those memories that you know youll have forever. So march on time as you will, but now & then Ill be coming back here... stay up til I fall asleep? I will kiddo, I will.
