For 14 football players, the morning of June 21, 2014 stung, real bad. In their final cutdown before submitting a roster to the CFL, the RedBlacks released 14 players, including Justin Palardy, the guy who seemed to have the starting kicker job nailed down. Also cut: Defensive backs Steven Adu and Parker Orms, linebacker Devin Arrington, defensive ends Stephon Miller and Dimetrio Tyson, kicker Paulo Henriques, offensive linemen Brendan Dunn, James Lee and Aaron Wheaton, receivers Travon Patterson, Simon Le Marquand and Aaron Hargeaves and Taulib Ikharo. So why cut two kickers, leaving only Brett Maher, whos been here less than a week, in camp. It really comes down to performance, said RedBlacks GM Marcel Desjardins. Nobody lived up to what we felt the acceptable level of performance is. It doesnt mean (Brett) is locked into being our guy, either. We still have some guys to explore and other options to look at. We have a bye week, so we have time to figure this out. Read into that and it seems likely the RedBlacks already have plans to bring somebody else in. Ottawa Sun
