For 20-some years, I have picked out my first-day professional teacher outfit. For over 20 years, Ive pored over the names of my new students like a detective. For some 20-odd years, Ive deliberated over what ice breaker or team-building activity would be the most beneficial. For decades, I have felt the added adrenaline, the momentary jitteriness, the qualms about day one of a new school year. So on this yet one more season of meeting seniors and a newspaper staff, I count it a privilege to still enjoy this journey- at my school, with my co-workers, with my fresh new batch of students that I will soon call my kids.
