For #AligarhMuslimUniversity I would like to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor Mr. Zamirudddin Shah for convening selection committees of various departments of the #Universities to fill the vacant posts. This will certainly help in the pursuit of academic excellence. Interview is the most effective method of selection and the credentials of selection committee is not questionable but in recent past #AMU has started a new culture of discrimination. Only five applicants of Assistant Professor are being called against a post. Reportedly, the Vice-Chancellor has no time for his most important duty. Is this number justified on any ground? Event #UPSC is not doing this. #DU is also short-listing the applicants of Assistant Professor but they are calling at least 30 applicants on one/two seats, if there are more than three seats they are calling 20 candidates on first post and 10 candidates on every additional seats. Most importantly, they publish the screening criterion with advertisement, make the name of short-listed candidates public on website and addresses related grievances but unfortunately AMU is not doing so. Short-listing criterion of AMU in the language of HRM is not reliable, not balanced and missing the spirit of #UGC guidelines. Ironically, the university collected information of the candidates and using the criterion to get the favorite candidates short-listed (once short listed your probability of getting in increases dramatically). In a department where candidates having #JRF with #PhD were denied interview letter a professor managed interview letter for his two daughters. The most recent criterion allocates 4% weight to non-test fellowship like MNF, ICHR, ICSSR etc. whereas it allocates only 5 % weight to doctorate. MNF was started just few years back (earlier applicants were deprived of fellowship and now interview letter). Most illogically, this criterion gives highest weight to least experienced and least weight to the most experienced under age category. It allocates 5 % weight to PDF and nothing to lectureship. The very idea of short-listing is being defeated by some vested interest and it is working against the objective, rejecting JNU pass-outs and including others. I request the #ViceChancellor to take the matter seriously and call all the applicants. If the university is adamant it should call at least 20 candidates on first seat and 10 candidates on every additional seats, it must also revise the criterion of short-listing.
