For Cheryl Atkinson her word was, BURGER, so Cheryl, enjoy I call this one: I’M LOVIN’ IT By D P Sloan It was the usual night, people coming in for their McDonald’s extra value meals and people going out with their, ‘takeaway,’ in the brown bags printed with the McDonald’s logo and ‘I’m lovin’ it!’ slogan. It was a night that Cheryl Atkinson would remember for the rest of her life. Cheryl worked in the St Enoch’s Centre McDonald’s but it was her day off and after a movie with her boyfriend Martin at the local Empire cinema in Clydebank, they popped into McDonald’s for something to eat. Standing in the line, Cheryl ordered an, ‘extra value cheeseburger meal with a coke,’ Cheryl knew most of the staff at this fast food joint but the guy that served her this time she didn’t know, she paid and then walked over to the table that her boyfriend sat at. Martin didn’t want anything but as per usual stole some of Cheryl’s fries. Cheryl picked up the cheeseburger and bit into it, only to bite into something hard and with a slimy feeling. She pulled the burger away from her mouth and looked at it puzzlingly. Out the side of the bun poked the cheese and burger but something else poked out of it. “What the hell is that?” she said to her boyfriend. Who looked up and at the bun puzzled to. Cheryl lifted the top of the bun and looked at what she took a chunk out of…….it was none other than a half bitten finger. It was so disgusting that she threw up in her mouth but then swallowed the vomit again. She placed the burger on the table and then noticed that the finger once had a ring on it. The grey line from a ring was so obvious. Cheryl stood up and with Martin they both went back over to the assistant who had served her. She put her tray down on the counter. As she waited, she noticed that the assistant didn’t even have his uniform on, looking around Cheryl noticed that there was no other staff members behind the counter, it was just the man that served her. Cheryl peered over the counter and looked down at the floor and saw something that looked like blood. “What are you staring at?” asked the man behind the counter. Cheryl shook her head, “Nothing,” but deep down she knew something wasn’t right here and that something had gone terribly wrong. “Well what can I do for you?” asked the man, this time looked at both Cheryl and Martin like they were aliens. “Oh nothing,” Cheryl replied, “I just wanted to say how nice this burger is.” She began to take a step back. “Oh okay,” replied the man smiling, while fumbling with something in his pocket. Both Cheryl and Martin looked around and noticed that for a usually busy fast food place, they happened to be the only people in the entire building. They both turned to run out the doors, when the man leaped over the counter, producing a steak knife, he pushed Martin to the floor and as he fell he cracked his head on a table. Cheryl screamed and got to the front door only for the man to place a hand over her mouth and pull her back towards the kitchen area. He pulled her through the doors to the kitchen and threw her against a work table, she yelled out a cry but the man laughed. “Come on you must have known that McDonald’s uses human meat now!” Cheryl shook her head. “Cow meat, horse meat it was only right that a company this big starts to use something different and human meat is a good idea. Plus it keeps the population down as well!” The man lunged at Cheryl making a meal out of her.
