For Chief R. O. Akinrimisi: A Requiem. I had not a little - TopicsExpress

For Chief R. O. Akinrimisi: A Requiem. I had not a little disquietness In my heart yesterday Hearing hes gone Though graciously aged at 90 And lived a fulfilled life Filled with great moments and enduring legacies You cant but feel touched That such a man, well made And self made has gone for good He was my fathers best of friends A friendship I grew up with and grew fond of And such that appeared so unblemished That nature itself would have applauded On ground of immaculate conception and holistic endurance. Dad told me their friendship spanned over 70 years He told me they followed same routes At school, religion, marriage and career. So close they were, that one had to change to Catholicism At very tender age in defiance of parents Just to avoid nipping the free flow of camaraderie hobnobbing. Dad told me Chief was a great sprinter That won laurels for the schools they attended, And I sighed,No wonder! Angie was the fastest girl at St. Monicas Dad told me they followed same trend in having children And I wowed! As I noticed Father Patrick and I are of same age And No 5 on either family. They were both Catholic school teachers That Heaven blessed with great pupils Including Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state Who once alluded to their beautiful cursive handwriting Which is unbelievably similar And harmoniously perfect That I was almost blaming mother For my tiki-taka handwriting Not that bad really, but far less attractive. Few days back as I sat with him on sick bed I wondered if this frail in health but still didactic great man close to the grave wasnt sinless For,he appeared perfect to me,in all the years Ive known him Certainly,no man is sinless but if there were men who God will approve for Heaven with little or no questioning On account of uprightness, devotion, contentment, grace and divine wisdom, the Baba Ijo of St. Patricks Church will be counted worthy. If there were men who will be remembered for uncommon uplifting of the education of children the Headmaster at St. Patricks Catholic school will be one among millions. Adieu! Chief Richard Olanisimi Akinrimisi, the devout catholic, family man, teacher, legend and sage. Surely, It shall be well with your soul, great Dad.
