For Fathers Day, Chris and I took the day off from all our - TopicsExpress

For Fathers Day, Chris and I took the day off from all our responsibilities and went to Morris Creek to go kayaking. Morris Creek is off of Rte 5, off the Chickahominy River, towards Jamestown from RVA. It is spectacularly beautiful. We put in about 1:15 and kayaked a ways then stopped and had lunch, kayaked to the end of the creek, then came back, getting back to the dock around 6:15. We took our time and enjoyed the pristine beauty immensely. At times I felt like we could be Native Americans back in the time before any European settlers arrived - it was that quiet and pristine and eerily unpopulated. Ancient cyprus trees guarded the banks. Ospreys flew overhead with their catch. Blackbirds taunted us from the bullrushes and waterlilies. Hairy tan caterpillars wiggled helplessly in the water, apparently in their deaththoes. (I caught a couple and put them back on the plants - I couldnt bear to see them struggle. Hope I didnt mess up their life cycle.) We paddled silently through the wide expanse enjoying the beauty, filled with joy and satisfaction.
