For Immediate Release - July 18, 2013 TxDOT CLOSES FM 665 IN WESTERN NUECES, EASTERN JIM WELLS COUNTIES CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas Department of Transportation has closed FM 665 in western Nueces and eastern Jim Wells counties to make repairs to about a 10-mile section of the roadway. For safety reasons, FM 665 will be closed between FM 666 in Nueces County and FM 1930 east of Alice. Motorists who use FM 665 to travel between Alice, Robstown and Corpus Christi are advised to use SH 44 until the road is reopened. The intersections at FM 665 and FM 666 and FM 70 are open to northbound and southbound traffic. A preventative maintenance process, known as seal coating, where a new layer of aggregate is spread over the roadway, was performed on the road Saturday and Monday. Preliminary assessments indicate heavy rain early in the week prevented the new aggregate from adhering properly to the asphalt and also prevented the new asphalt from setting up properly. On Thursday, motorists traveling on FM 665 reported asphalt adhering to their tires and vehicles. TxDOT provided bottled water to motorists at the scene. For the safety of the traveling public and work crews, TxDOT has closed FM 665 until repairs can be completed. The road will be reopened when it is safe to do so.
