A ceremony is being held to celebrate the past, present and future vision of Battle Harbour to ensure its longevity and sustainability. Situated on a small near shore island, for over two centuries Battle Harbour was the economic and social centre of the south east Labrador Coast and was known as the salt fish capital of Newfoundland and Labrador. In spring of 2013, BHHT commenced phase one of work on the island, which primarily saw the accommodations upgraded and enhanced. This included handcrafted furniture by resident heritage carpenters and locally made quilts to make guests feel like they have stepped back in time. Phase two will include further enhancements in dining and relaxation and continued work on the operations. “The end result of this work will be a world class tourism destination, and as Battle Harbour grows, so will the tourism industry and economy of Southern Labrador.
