For Immediate Release on June 21, 2013 – Stop Date July 21, 2013 Mt. Charleston Wilderness Management Plan LAS VEGAS, Nevada…The U.S. Forest Service (FS) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) are working in cooperation to prepare an Environmental Assessment to evaluate the environmental consequences of a Wilderness Management Plan for the Mt. Charleston Wilderness, pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act. The Mt. Charleston Wilderness is situated, in part, on national forest lands managed by the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, FS, and, in part, on public land managed by the Las Vegas Field Office of the Southern Nevada District, BLM. The FS is the lead agency for this project. The FS and the BLM have released the Preliminary Wilderness Management Plan for public comment. A legal notice of the 30-day timeframe to comment on the preliminary plan was published in the Reno Gazette-Journal, the newspaper of record, on June 11, 2013. The Mt. Charleston Preliminary Wilderness Management Plan is available for review at the following link fs.usda.gov/projects/htnf/landmanagement/projects, scroll down and click on Mt. Charleston Wilderness Management Plan. A Notice of Proposed Action / Opportunity to Comment, with a map attached and instructions on how to comment, is posted on the same website. Comments received on the preliminary plan will assist the agencies in identifying potential issues concerning management direction set out in the plan. The preliminary plan is also available in hard copy or on disc at the Spring Mountains NRA administrative offices located at 4701 North Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, NV, 89130-2301
