For Love of the Game Day #4: Today was another great day on the mission field. We were able to go out to a very popular village among the mission teams that travel through Because We Care Ministries. Villa Esperanza was the site of today’s action and mission’s work. However the day was not about baseball, but about following God’s plan. I knew today was going to be special. A little over four and half years ago, For Love of the Game was not even a thought. Not until God landed me smack in the middle of a village called “Villa Esperanza.” On that day in 2010 my team wanted to play soccer and paint fingernails. Two things I really had no desire to do. I went walking through the village to figure out how I was going to connect. Don reminded me about the softball and bat we had in the truck. I quickly grabbed it and went looking for someone to “engage.” I quickly found several boys who were ready to play. We began to play a game called pepper. As we played men began to show up and watch. A few interacted, but not many. As the day went on the men never left. I asked a guy if he wanted to play? He looked at me and quickly walked away. Ten minutes later the man showed up with 12 other guys and 9 red gloves. They had a baseball team. AH HA moment.. I can use something I love (the game of baseball) and connect with these guys. As the day progressed I had a chance to share the gospel with these men and seven gave their life to the Lord. (the photo of the men is my cover photo) The next day I asked Don if we could go somewhere and purchase some baseballs and take out to the village. His reply was “Si, but it will cost ya.” We were able to drive back the next day with a few baseballs and give to the team. The team asked us to stay and come take a look at something. They took us to this field. The coach shared with me that they are praying for someone to help them turn this field into a baseball field. They asked if I would walk out there and pray with them. I did, along with a few missionary friends Brady Woolwine and Candy Stein Woolwine. We prayed and asked God to bless this group of men. To give them a field they can call theirs. Fast forward to today July 29th, 2014. We had the chance to see Gods blessing come to life. We played on what was once a dead field, but God found a way to take something that had no life and give it life. A field where a team of 19 FLG North Americans played against a group of men from Villa Esperanza. A winner or loser did not matter. The hero of the day was our Savior. Our team was able to see God do something bigger than any group could ever accomplish. The prayers of 3 North Americans and a team from Villa Esperanza 4+ years ago were answered. Today Satan was defeated. We had the chance to talk about that day 4+ years ago with the men. They were reminded about how powerful and true the scriptures are. A miracle came to life today. Who took part in it??? Villa Esperanza, 19 FLG players, 13 Engagers, 11 BWCM staff members, 1 local pastor, and a GREAT BIG GOD! Please continue to pray for our Ministry Team. God is dealing with hearts. I truly feel like something BIG is yet to come.
