For Melody, for always. I am the mother of four, three who walk and one who soars. You will only see me with three of my children, because one is only on this earth in spirit. Yet it is because of that one child, who was just shy of 20 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound and 15 oz. and measuring 7 long, that I refuse yo be silent in my grief and to turn a blind eye to others suffering. I am not the same woman I was before the silent birth of my child, born sleeping at 12:05 am on August 26, 2011. It is because of her and a promise to Noras mom that I helped change Iowas law to provide parents the option to obtain a certificate of birth resulting in stillbirth, even though I may never receive even a death certificate for my child. October 15 is Infant Loss and Rememberance Day but we, as grieving families, remember every day. If you know someone who has lost a child, please remember their family tomorrow (any time is okay too). Speak their names; it hurts much more when you remain silent. Hold your living children a little closer. Tomorrow is never promised. Peace.
