For Sale: Irish Black Velvet £1950ono Velvet is a beautiful black 14.2hh 14 year old ISH mare. She would be ideal for a PC/RC or family home where she will be pampered! This is an honest advert to find an honest buyer as this mare has been my life for the last 2 years - only for sale due to me being at college. Flatwork Velvet has nice flatwork and will work in an outline for a competent rider should they ask for it. For a less experienced rider she will happily have a little walk, trot and canter around the school. She rides more like a small horse than a pony and is an uncomplicated ride that is regularly ridden by my friend’s 4 and 8 year old children. Hacking Velvet is a very easy, steady hack but will happily step up a gear and go for a canter or gallop and will jump anything you point her at. She doesn’t hot up in open spaces – I ride her in 40 acres bareback and in a headcollar! I’ve taken her to the beach where she loved galloping through the water and jumping the groynes. She has no issues with arctic lorries, motorbikes, cyclists, dogs ect but can be a bit looky at tractors. She never does anything nasty and has given a friend of mine, who was previously terrified of hacking, a lot of confidence out and about. I mainly hack her out alone and go exploring but she is fine in company and was regularly used to nanny youngsters down the main road. Jumping Velvet has previously jumped BSJA, however she is no longer up to jumping the heights anymore (hence PC/family home), however she can still happily jump about 90cm easily and would be brilliant to start someone competing at the odd unaffiliated show as she is an easy point and shoot ride that never stops and is always in the rosettes. She is bold and brave so no fillers, water trays or natural fences bother her. She is forward thinking when jumping but not silly – I’ve jumped her tackless with no problems and she will happily trot over a cross pole with a novice/nervous rider at snail’s pace. Other Velvet can be a typical mare but she is never nasty and once you get to know her she has the sweetest personality. She’s handled and ridden by a 4 and 8 year old – having her morning cuddles over the fence from the 4 year old. She currently lives out 24/7 but would need a shelter/stable in winter. She is an absolute saint to clip, shoe and travel – I have ridden her into trailers and lorries and she used to be the one crammed on the end of the yard 8 horse lorry!
