For Scotty Simpson regarding gradations: Scotty I took some time to review the images you posted (which were very helpful---thank you!). Judging by what I can see---It appears that you may be a bit too thin with the paint (which may lead to a number of gradation problems). This thin application coupled with excessive blending will almost clean off the crests of the tooth (resulting in the white spots). This lack of paint may be leading to some of the streaking you are experiencing but I cannot say for sure. Here is a graphic that I had used for The Language of Drawing regarding blending materials together. if your tapers do not overlap--(as seen in example B)---the resulting deficit of material may lead to gradation problems. However, two tapers that DO effectively overlap will yield an even opacity to the gradation while offering more control over the cleanliness of the grading material (both dry and wet media). I have also included a blow up of one of our gradations on canvas board (you can notice the texture).
