In 1973 Led Zeppelin opened its 1973 U.S. tour, billed as the, quote, biggest and most profitable rock and roll tour in the history of the United States. In 1974 Grand Funk Railroads The Loco-Motion hit number one on the pop singles chart. In 1976 Kiss performed their first concert in New York City. In 1979 Frank Zappa released the album Orchestral Favorites. In 1985 Don Henleys All She Wants To Do Is Dance peaked at number nine on the pop singles chart. In 1987 Bluesman Paul Butterfield died. He was 44. In 1990 David Bowies ex-wife Angela told the press that Bowie had slept with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. In 1991 Phil Collins received an honorary doctorate from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 1992 Kiss received the keys to the city of Baltimore, and it was declared Kiss Day in the Maryland city. In 1995 John Fogerty was awarded one-point-three-five-million-dollars in a copyright lawsuit in San Francisco. In 1999 Toto was inducted into Hollywoods Rock Walk. In 2002 Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne attended the annual White House Correspondents Dinner as the guest on the Fox News Channels Greta Van Susteren. In 2003 Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole called the Osbournes dysfunctional people during a rant against reality TV as a commentator on CBS 60 Minutes. In 2007 Evanescence guitarist John LeCompt said he had been fired from the band. He also revealed that drummer Rock Gray had left the group. New Orders Peter Hook told a UK radio station that the band had split up. Thieves broke into the Smashing Pumpkins Chicago studio, and reportedly took guitar picks and photographs which they later tried to sell online. A few days later police had arrested two suspects in the incident. In 2008 Bruce Springsteen was among the first inductees into the New Jersey Hall of Fame. The Neville Brothers played their first post-Katrina show in New Orleans, closing the final weekend of the citys annual Jazzfest. In 2009 Ron Woods estranged wife, Jo, began divorce proceedings. She was reportedly seeking half of Woods fortune of nearly 176-million-dollars, along with an additional 20-percent as compensation for all the work she did for him over the decades. In 2010 Bret Michaels was released from a Phoenix hospital following 12 days of treatment after he suffered a brain hemorrhage. Doctors said that while Michaels was out of the hospital, he was still recovering from the condition and still very sick. Heaven & Hell cancelled their summer European tour because frontman Ronnie James Dio was still undergoing treatment for stomach cancer. The singer died of the disease 12 days later. In 2012 The Beastie Boys Adam MCA Yauch died in New York after a long battle with cancer. He was 47. ###
