For about three years now, Ive had this idea for a film and I named it In Your Wildest Nightmares right off the bat. For three years, Ive struggled with what the story would be about, the names of characters, the time setting, what it would represent. I have close to three note books with just sketches, written ideas, character designs (horrible do not ask for to see them), and even story outlines. However nothing really seemed to stick. First it was a cohesive mix of Nightmare on Elm St with The Matrix, changed to an authoritarian dystopian future that eventually just became me copying James Patterson, then changed again and again into countless ideas. Now Im on the verge of finding the idea that sticks but I would like to hear what people think about the final two ideas. The first is essentially drama: A teen is cursed with a mental illness that causes him to see his nightmares bleed into the real world. With no cure for his condition, this lapse of reality causes him trouble socially and causes him to get in trouble as well. His shrink is of no help and neither are is medications. The only reprieve he has is with best friend who also has a rare condition: the ability to cause temporary blindness to anyone he touches. Can they find a way to cope with their insecurities odd conditions? The second is taking a look on the other side of our unconscious glass: Nightmares are creatures plaque our dreams for an unprecedented amount of reasons. These creatures have come to terms that this is what life is and continue on with their lives like we do with ours. That is until on Nightmare gains a sense of self awareness and befriends one of his targets, a young girl with nightmare syndrome. In time, they learn how life works in both realms, and more about each other. In doing so a better grasp on life is shared between the two, however, not everyone agrees with them. The Nightmares view their fellow creatures beliefs as blasphemous and the young girls is committed to a mental health center due to what her parents called insanity. Can one save the other, or are they doomed to conform to the realities their peers believe to be right. I know it might be a lot to process but please feel free to tell me what you think.
