For all Stamford CT residents, please read... and please share and help! PLEASE WRITE TO: Chief Jon Fontneau, Stamford Police Department, 805 Bedford Street, Stamford CT 06901-1194 (ph. #203-977-4681) and to Mayor David Martin, Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd, 10th Floor, Stamford, CT 06901 (ph. #203-977-4150) along with an email to: [email protected] - YOUR VOICE MATTERS! Many have asked what is going on? and how can I help? ... here is what we know: The Police Department has been conducting an investigation on whether procedures had been followed in the adoption of all dogs coming form the Stamford Animal Shelter. This we know because adopted families have been receiving letters to their homes asking if they would want to return their dog to the Shelter as if it were a sweater they bought last week (at least that is the interpretation I got when I received my letter - I am a fellow volunteer and adopter of the Shelter). Nothing else has been commented by the Mayor or Police and in the meanwhile our beloved Director of the Shelter, Laurie Hollywood, has not been able to return to her job until the investigation is complete. We have no way of helping other than voicing our unhappiness to the lack of information given or at the least, voicing our admiration on how Laurie Hollywood has committed her time (off the clock), her dedication (to each and every pet in the Shelter), her knowledge (of each pet - medically and behavioral, training-wise, knowing the best match for each family or person looking to adopt), and her compassion (to those needing her help, those giving up their pets; and of course to all roaming, dumped or neglected pet that set foot in that shelter). Without her guidance and leadership, the Shelter pets are neglected - Volunteers have not been allowed to assist in socializing the animals or taking them for walks on beautiful days like today. If she were in the Shelter today, despite the lack of Volunteers, she would (and has always) made certain that each dog had outside time, the pens were open and each took a turn to be out in the dog runs to enjoy the day and stretch their legs. Today they are all in their closed cages - no dog can be seen outside... only the barking and sad situation of being cooped up and not let out for hours (or for some - days) on end. This is not the kind of Shelter we want for our town, this is not the kind of care we want for all these homeless pets - they dont deserve it! We need to be their voices and help get Laurie Hollywood back to where she belongs - helping the animals that need her!
