For all his strengths (and they are myriad), Todd has written a disappointing book, a slab of pedestrian punditry marbled with occasional insight. The Stranger purports to tell the story of a president who couldn’t transcend his environment. The story it ultimately—and unwittingly—tells is of the perceptive political geek who couldn’t escape Beltway groupthink... And therein lies the rub. Rather (thank you Dan) than follow in the steps of the Cronkites, the Murrows and an entire generation of news anchors who gave American journalism a standard of objectivity and investigative excellence which elevated it above all others in the world, the current crop of talking heads are only too interested in self-promotion and self-aggrandizement...wishing to foist their personal bias upon every story...wanting to show how they--and not the listening public--are the true arbiters of truth, justice and the American Way... Todd is nothing more than Hannity-lite. He is no better than the worst Breitbart hack. He, along with a gaggle of other purported journalists brought up in the so-called Liberal media of MSNBC have locked in goose-step with Ailes Clairol Cadre, spouting half-truths (or blatant lies) about domestic and world developments... I pity Rachel Maddow. It must be so hard for her to come to work every day, surrounded by such paltry excuses for the Fourth Estate...
